Underwater adventure in Bali
Though it has steadily been gaining a reputation as a lost paradise thanks to overdevelopment, the northern coast of Bali remains relatively untouched. This side of the island, split from the south by a volcanic mountain range, is also an ideal place for an active holiday in Indonesia, particularly if you are looking for a Bali diving holiday. An ideal time to visit is September, as the summer holiday visitors head home, the rainy season is yet to begin and temperatures start to cool.

Bali is This Month's "Chan's Pick"
Singapore's most established travel specialist, Chan Brothers Travel Pte Ltd, has selected Indonesia's paradise island of Bali as this month's "Chan's Pick" destination, and has lined up some enticing special offers at top hotels and resorts. Bali enjoys tropical weather, being only a few degrees south of the equator. The sun rises at 6 a.m. in the morning and sets at 6 p.m. in the afternoon, every day of the year. Temperature variation is very small, averaging around 26-30 Celsius, and Bali does not have four seasons. Bali only has a wet season, typically from September to February, and a dry season for the other half of the year. But the difference is marginal; at the peak of the wet season you will see about a half-hour to an hour of serious downpour in the afternoon, about perfect for a siesta. The rest of the time it's a nice, warm temperature, especially with a twist of sea breeze on the beaches.

Private villa is the way to afford luxury in Bali
For a week we had the run of Umah di Beji, a 3,000-square-metre walled compound housing five villas, a large open living space and dining area, a 15-metre pool, sundeck, lush and floral gardens, emerald lawns and a number of small meditation huts in which - at various times of the day - we retreated for quiet contemplation. Increasingly, Bali addicts are opting for the private villa option over large impersonal hotels, mainly because it offers five-star exclusivity at more affordable prices.

World travel authority finds bustling Bali a magnet to Asian
He also found the island was bustling and crowded with visitors from Japan, Korea, Taiwan and other parts of Asia while many Australians missed out on the attractions of one of the top destinations in the world. Asian millionaires were flying in hundreds of guests for weddings while the Japanese (among the world’s most security conscious people) were coming in record numbers because it is one of the places where they feel most able to relax, he says. “The island struck me as far safer than Los Angeles, where I maintain a home, or Delhi, which I visited soon afterwards, or New York, or carjack-filled London, or most of the places I visit. The murder rate in American cities has long been higher than even in cities in the midst of civil war, and since the September 11 attacks it is even more the case that places like New York, Paris, Madrid or London are less safe than less high-profile places. Certainly, I felt much safer in Ubud, say, or Nusa Dua, in Bali, where I was staying to promote the Ubud Writers & Readers Festival in September than I do in Southern California or in London.

First time travellers steer clear of Bali
BALI is back on the travel radar - but five years after the infamous bombings, the Indonesian island is still struggling to entice the first-time traveller.
While the island is proving popular with tourists from Western Australia, Britain, Germany, Japan and Korea, enticing the South Australian traveller is proving a headache for travel agents.
